To mark this year’s Emirati Women’s Day, the second Emirates Women Achievers (EWA) event is launched by startAD, a startup accelerator supported by Tamkeen, Abu Dhabi’s cultural and educational entity, with New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) ), celebrating 23 female professionals from the UAE.
The event, themed “We Work Together for Tomorrow,” took place on August 24, 2023 at NYU School of the Arts and was organized by startAD in partnership with the US Mission to the UAE and the Arab International Women’s Forum.
Since its inception, EWA has been organized under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairman of the National Women’s Union, Chairman of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, and Supreme Chairman of the Family Development Foundation. At this year’s event, Her Excellency Dr. Maitha Salem Al Shamsi, UAE Minister of State, who delivered the keynote speech on behalf of Mubarak, stressed that the country’s progress is clearly due to the presence of female leaders in society and business.

Tamkeen President and NYU Trustee Rima Al Mokarrab also delivered a keynote address, announcing the creation of the EWA Network, a natural evolution of the EWA program.
“The support for the EWA program has been encouraging since its launch last year,” said Al Mokarrab. “As such, the scope of the program goes beyond annual recognition and celebration. Our focus is on identifying the female innovators of today and tomorrow. Constructive resources for service. By creating collaborative EWA networks, Emirati women from different generations, industries and backgrounds can use their collective experience to lift each other up and drive their businesses forward while driving our vibrant society and economy. develop.

The 23 Emirati women who participated in the event were recognized for their contribution to the UAE’s innovation and entrepreneurial culture across multiple disciplines. Recipients include Tala Badri, founder and executive director of the Dubai Center for Music and Arts, Hoda Alkhzaimi, director of the Center for Cybersecurity at NYU School of the Arts, and the Emirates Pioneer Award winner Inventor Fatima Alkaabi.

As part of the EWA initiative, an expanded network of Emirati female entrepreneurs and business leaders (74 in total) recognized as Emirati Women Achievers will also be integrated into the startAD ecosystem as mentors, speakers and investors.
