Wegan Food will focus on offering vegan food in Mumbai
Mumbai-based food tech startup Wegan Foods has raised an undisclosed amount of funding from one Royal Family of Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah – His Highness Sheikha Alwa Al Qasimi.
The funding will be used to expand commercial kitchens, inventory and brand building.
His Highness Sheikha Alwa Qasimi Said: “I personally invested in Wigan Foods. What impressed me was that Kinjal (the founder) planned to have 90% female employees by recruiting from organizations that nurture and empower women from disadvantaged backgrounds. Workforce. That’s the biggest motivator for me. Globally, I’ve been an advocate for women’s rights and see this investment as a step in that direction.”
According to the official statement, Wegan Foods will initially launch in Mumbai through modern trade and specific food delivery app platforms. The company also plans to establish B2B networks with restaurants, hotels, catering companies, coffee shop chains and airlines.
The startup plans to launch a range of healthy, dairy-free pantry staples for India’s growing vegetarian community.

We aim to be an ethical and transparent brand that will source the highest quality ingredients. Each product will be made in what we call the ‘Happy Kitchen’ Made, not in a lab or factory.”
Darukhanawala calls himself a vegetarian and health enthusiast. She hopes to solve the shortage of local vegan pantry staples in India.
