Ireland’s Minister of State for Trade Promotion, Digitalization and Corporate Regulation, TD, has embarked on a four-day trade visit organized by Ireland to promote economic links between Ireland and the United Arab Emirates. The delegation, led by Enterprise Ireland chief executive Leo Clancy, aims to collaborate in key areas such as medical technology, aviation, artificial intelligence and financial technology.
The UAE has become an important growth market for Irish businesses, particularly in the innovation sector, where there is huge demand for Irish products and services. In 2022, Ireland’s exports to the UAE increased significantly by 22%, reaching $175.5 million.
During the trade visit, Ministers Khalili and Leo Clancy will hold high-level meetings with UAE ministers, business leaders and heads of organizations to discuss the latest developments and innovations in targeted industries. The agenda begins with a meeting between the Executive Committees of Ireland and Dubai, focusing on mutual economic interests.
A key highlight of the trade mission was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between Enterprise Ireland and the Dubai Chamber of Commerce. The agreement, officially signed by Leo Clancy and Saeed Al Gergawi, Vice President of the Dubai Digital Economy Chamber, aims to unlock opportunities for Irish companies in the technology, manufacturing, ESG and cleantech sectors.
Minister Khalili expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, saying: “This will undoubtedly provide a global platform for Irish companies to grow and develop in the UAE and the wider Middle East.”
The Chief Executive of Enterprise Ireland stressed that the MoU is a key step in connecting Irish innovation with Dubai’s vibrant business ecosystem, supporting the development of Irish enterprise and economic links.
As part of the trade mission, Minister Kaliri will speak at a FinTech/ICT seminar, engage with the Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy and Remote Work Applications, and hold meetings with aviation industry leaders. The meetings are aimed at exploring collaboration opportunities, promoting Irish high-tech products in the UAE market and expanding on-demand services.
The trade mission also included interactions with key players in the aviation industry, including Dubai Duty Free, Emirates Airline and Dubai International Airport. The meetings will explore areas of collaboration, discuss existing collaborations and identify opportunities for Irish companies to contribute to the UAE aviation industry.
This trade mission is aligned with the Arab Health 2024 programme, and Minister Kalili will support a delegation of 17 Irish health innovators to participate in the Irish National Pavilion. The overall aim is to strengthen economic cooperation and raise the profile of Ireland’s world-leading innovative products in the UAE and the wider Middle East.
