Officials from EGA and the Ministry of Economy signed a memorandum of understanding.
Emirates Global Aluminum (EGA), the United Arab Emirates’ largest industrial company outside oil and gas, announced on Thursday that the UAE Ministry of Economy (MoE) will support EGA Ramp-Up, a program aimed at nurturing the UAE’s entrepreneurial ecosystem. The UAE also helps develop the national economy in line with the Entrepreneurship National Strategy.
Abdullah Al Saleh, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Economy, said: “The Ministry of Economy is committed to supporting the UAE’s entrepreneurship, innovation and creative ecosystem by strengthening collaboration with like-minded private and public sector partners under ‘Projects for the UAE’ System.50′ drives the country’s economic agenda and diversity initiatives. We are delighted to be working with EGA and look forward to supporting the EGA Ramp-Up program to support innovators and creative thinkers.”
Khalid Essa Buhumaid, Senior Vice President of Government Relations at EGA, said: “Through EGA Ramp-Up, we aim to support entrepreneurs whose businesses will contribute to the diversification and growth of the economy. We are honored to partner with the Ministry of Economy on this initiative program and will work together to support and promote more entrepreneurs whose success will benefit themselves and our country.” The EGA Ramp-Up program is attracting aspiring entrepreneurs and budding entrepreneurs to participate in a A series of informative online courses on effective entrepreneurship. The program will work more closely with the most promising startups, providing mentoring support from a global network of experts. New startups that meet EGA’s strategic goals will be evaluated for eligibility for cash incentives and partnership opportunities with EGA.
The Department’s National Platform for Entrepreneurship will provide EGA Ramp-Up with greater access to emerging entrepreneurs and support the program’s outreach activities. A member of the Entrepreneurial Nation team will join the EGA Ramp-Up assessment team, which assesses entrepreneurs’ eligibility for support.
Applications for the EGA Ramp-Up program are now open, with more than 300 entrepreneurs already registered to participate in the first round. Applications close on January 27th.
Entrepreneurship is one of the UAE’s top priorities and an important pillar of the Centenary Plan 2071. The National Entrepreneurship and SME Agenda aims to make our country the preferred destination for global entrepreneurship by 2031.
EGA works with C3 to implement the program. C3 is a UAE-based social enterprise dedicated to supporting entrepreneurs in the region to unlock their growth potential and maximize their positive impact on communities and the environment.

Today, EGA is the world’s largest producer of “high-quality aluminum” and the largest industrial company outside the oil and gas industry in the United Arab Emirates.
EGA is equally owned by Mubadala Investment Company of Abu Dhabi and Dubai Investment Company. It is the largest company jointly owned by two Emirates.
EGA is an integrated aluminum producer with operations ranging from bauxite mining to cast primary aluminum production. EGA operates aluminum smelters in Jebel Ali and Al Taweelah, an alumina refinery in Al Taweelah, and bauxite and related export facilities in the Republic of Guinea. EGA’s aluminum is the second-largest export made in the UAE, after oil and gas.
In 2021, EGA sold 2.54 million tons of cast metal. EGA is the only producer in the UAE, making the UAE the fifth largest aluminum producer in the world.
EGA has more than 400 customers in more than 50 countries. In 2021, value-added products accounted for 84% of EGA’s cast metal sales.
EGA’s aluminum is used primarily in the construction, automotive, packaging, aerospace and electronics industries.
Approximately 10% of EGA’s aluminum production is sold in the UAE to approximately 26 downstream aluminum companies, which manufacture products using EGA’s aluminum. The UAE’s growing aluminum industry provides 60,950 employment opportunities. EGA itself employs more than 7,000 such personnel, including nearly 1,200 UAE nationals.
EGA has been focusing on technology development for 25 years. Since the 1990s, EGA has used its own technology in every smelter expansion and has retrofitted all older production lines. In 2016, EGA became the first UAE industrial company to license its core industrial process technology internationally.
