abu dhabi [UAE]February 16 (ANI/WAM): Sharjah Museums Authority (SMA) will participate in Emirates Innovation 2024, the country’s largest event dedicated to innovation, creativity and visionary thinking.
First launched in 2015 and taking place in Sharjah until February 21, the event is fully in line with the Authority’s vision to establish the emirate as a global cultural beacon and underlines the importance of museums as culturally enriching and educational spaces.
In pursuit of its mission to continuously raise museum standards through the conservation of collections and the promotion of culture and education, the SMA invites the public to immerse themselves in a variety of innovative initiatives and events scheduled throughout the week.
Sharjah Fort (Al Hisn) and Bait Al Naboodah will take center stage for Museum Learning Innovation.
Here, technology and augmented reality (AR) are intertwined to recreate Sharjah’s historical stories. This high-quality AR experience, crafted by students at the American University of Sharjah in collaboration with Krzysztof Pietroszek of the American University’s IDEAS Institute and Suhail Dahdal of the American University of Sharjah, represents a milestone in the fusion of technology and cultural heritage.
Its goal is to animate historical sites and museum artifacts in virtual and augmented reality environments.
This innovative approach connects Emirati youth to their heritage in new and engaging ways, harnessing the power of artificial intelligence to deliver a more immersive experience.
At the Sharjah Archaeological Museum, the “Life Innovations” initiative will take visitors back in time, showcasing ancient human times and the survival methods that led to the development of early settlements.
This initiative highlights the evolution of agriculture through human innovations in the Al Falaj irrigation system, hunting, the use of decorative tools, and the complexity of ancient daily life. It features interactive activities, guided tours and workshops, including the Flint Stocks Studio, Glazed Pottery Studio and Al Aflaj Studio.
‘Scientific Innovations’, on display at the Museum of Islamic Civilizations in Sharjah, celebrates the outstanding contributions of Muslim scholars in mathematics, physics, astronomy and medicine through the Ibn Haitham Gallery of Science and Technology, highlighting their scientific innovations and their impact on Human civilization has had a huge impact.
One of the achievements of Islamic science is the invention of the elephant clock by Ibn Al-Razzaz Al-Jazari, which we will explore through a hands-on workshop. In addition, there are various activities, guided tours and interactive screens.
In an effort to demonstrate inclusivity, the Sharjah Museum of Islamic Civilization’s Innovation for Diversity and Inclusion initiative will feature a tactile journey. Designed for visually impaired visitors, this tour will include models from the museum’s collection, providing a hands-on learning experience of touching and handling replicas to gain additional context and knowledge.
Braille labels and booklets are provided to give you a rich tactile experience of antiquities and Islamic civilization.
In addition, the Sharjah Museum of Islamic Civilization will provide sign language guided tours for hearing-impaired visitors on February 18 to ensure an inclusive cultural experience for all. (ANI/WAM)
